The MBA at Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management offers students the flexibility to shape their own curriculum. Students are drawn to the program for this “personal approach” and the school’s “collaborative environment.” As one student says, “My voice is really important to me, and while at Owen, I was able to find my voice due to the small class size and the personal scale of the program.” Students choose at least one concentration and can add more concentrations, specializations, or emphases. The nine different concentrations include marketing, accounting, and finance, as well as more specific areas like healthcare and human & organizational performance. There are also opportunities for independent study, such as working with a company and creating “your own project, supervised by a professor, for class credit.” In addition, “group work is a major part of most classes,” which helps students prepare for careers that “revolve around being able to work in diverse teams.”
The school has “a great faculty that truly cares about our success and wants to help us every step of the way.” Professors here “all know us by name and are extremely available to help both professionally and personally.” Students find that the courses feel up-to-date and are taught “using relevant materials.” The school’s small size means students get to know each other, which “builds a strong sense of community that carries over into a psychologically safe classroom environment.” As one student says, “I feel comfortable speaking up in class and safe to share a differing perspective.”
