01. Overview

What the school is known for:

Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, Shaw University adheres to an important and valuable mission: to develop the next generation of global leaders in every facet of society. This means providing a well-rounded education in all areas, focusing not only not only on superior academics, but also on shaping the spiritual and ethical values of its diverse community of learners. All students receive a general education to encourage the development of high personal standards, a sense of citizenship within the school community, and a commitment to the community and country at large.

Shaw offers more than thirty bachelor’s degree programs, along with several master’s degree programs. As of 1976, there’s also a robust program for adults returning to earn a degree, and eight extramural locations help to provide flexibility for those already working full-time jobs. Students have the opportunity to pursue a wide range of career paths, whether their passion lies in areas such as educating youth, advancing healthcare, steering technology, lifting up those in need, or founding the next major corporation. For those driven by a religious purpose or calling, Shaw University’s Divinity School helps shape emerging spiritual leaders with master’s degrees in divinity as well as Christian education.
