Where the classroom leaves off, campus life fills in. Rider's vibrant and active campus community includes student government, more than 150 student organizations, fraternities and sororities, plus 21 NCAA Division 1 sports teams, 20+ club/intramural sports, 13 fraternities and sororities, 150+ student organizations, and 5 Residence Halls for Living Learning Communities.

What students say:

Rider University's student body "is very small, yet welcoming." Many undergrads say it's "so easy to make connections with people," noting that everyone is "friendly and willing to help you with anything...academic or personal." That doesn't mean the school is without cliques that "tend to stick together as they share most of their classes," but it's not seen as a negative. Rider is also seen as a haven for "many different people here who didn't know if they would be able to go to college," and it shows-individuals work to make the most of this opportunity. "I haven't met one person at this school who hasn't been hardworking or determined with a set of goals in mind." A classmate adds, "I have had an amazing experience with everyone that I have met here at Rider and am really looking forward to seeing where life takes me."

From the School

At Rider, students can choose from 100+ undergraduate majors and minors and 50+ graduate programs through the Norm Brodsky College of Business, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Education and Human Sciences, and Westminster College of the Arts. Interdisciplinary majors are plentiful, and dual majors are encouraged.

What students say

Rider University is dedicated to the success of its undergraduates and "has made strong strides in recent years to improve facilities and provide new opportunities." From the getgo, students have access to accessibility and support services, including the career center's help with résumés and interview skills. Enrollees also mention how "the Engaged Learning Program is a great part of Rider's commitment" in that it makes clear to students not just how they're doing academically but in skills translatable to a real-world setting. This, in turn, is backed up by the Cranberry Investment, which "guarantees a job, internship, or graduate program acceptance within 1 year of graduation...[or post-graduate] assistance and courses to help you attain this goal."

Students note that this isn't just scaffolding-classes offer unique learning opportunities that go beyond textbooks and lectures, like the Business in Action Program: "I was placed in a group of four of my peers and we were tasked with creating a business idea and executing it from start to finish." Another undergrad adds that they were "able to go out on campus and film things for an assignment" and really enjoyed "being given creative freedom to complete projects." The focused class sizes come in handy here, as they "allow for a more personal connection with professors." And speaking of the faculty, they are typically "very engaged in the class material and willing to help students, inside and outside of the classroom." They also "really do seem to love their job and motivate kids to actually learn to expand their knowledge, not just do the work for a grade." Indeed, they understand how to foster "a safe learning space for students."

Location

Our home may be in central New Jersey, but on a grander scale, it's central to so much more. The Rider campus is a train ride from Philadelphia and New York City, minutes from historic Princeton and just an hour from the beach. But despite our proximity to some of the most popular destinations on the East Coast, Rider still feels like a small-town haven. You'll bump into friends on tree-lined walkways and take study breaks in expansive green spaces. And in the midst of all that, you're going to find your path. It might sound like a cliché, but it's true. You'll excel in classes you never thought you'd like, pursue career opportunities 280 ACRES to wander, discover and learn by heart (including a 2.7-acre lake!) you didn't think were possible and find common ground with people from places you've never even heard of. By the time you leave here, you'll know all the cozy study nooks, all the office hours with your favorite professors, all the themed celebrations that can't be missed and you'll know yourself a lot better too.

Campus Facilities & Equipment

Rider students experiment in our state-of-the-art science labs, perform on stage, hold leadership roles on campus and work at the Rider TV station as early as freshman year. Education majors -who are in classrooms by their sophomore year -are guaranteed 700 hours of classroom experience through field placements. Each year, Rider students complete more than 1,000 internships, co-ops, and field placements as part of their degree studies. Rider's award-winning Model UN program, innovative Global Village class, and a wealth of study abroad and international partnership programs provide opportunities for students to experience the world in a new way.

What students say:

At first glance, Rider's campus may appear quiet, given that "a decent portion of the student body commutes." But students list countless "amazing extracurriculars like a tabletop club, a dance ensemble, a student-directed theatre company, and more. There is truly something for everyone!" Additionally, students say that intramurals are "a lot of fun" and that "Greek life is a big way for students to become more involved and engaged." The school also hosts "many events that bring students together," including their twist on the X Factor television show, R Factor, and sometimes works with clubs to expand offerings like a beach cleanup. Students note that you can participate at your own pace, and appreciate that they can "easily get together to hang out or work on projects, go to the SRC to attend a fitness class, [or head] to our on-campus pub to watch sports games."
