From The School

A wide range of student-directed activities, athletics, clubs, and service organizations complement the academic experience. Intramural sports are very popular with Le Moyne students; approximately one third of students participate. Le Moyne also has twenty-one Division I NCAA intercollegiate teams (ten for men and eleven for women). Roughly 85 percent of students live in residence halls, apartments, and town houses on campus. The Residence Hall Councils and the Le Moyne Student Programming Board organize a variety of campus activities, including concerts, dances, a weekly film series, student talent programs, and special lectures as well as off-campus trips and skiing excursions.

The College encourages student leadership in all activities with positions open to students in all class years. Students are represented by a Student Government Association and have formal representation through the senate on most College-wide committees involved in decision making and policy formation.

What students say:

Given the school's Jesuit values, it makes sense that people are "committed to helping others and have a tremendous sense of empathy and desire to serve others. One student says, "I am proud of Le Moyne's commitment to promoting good character in addition to academics." Students are also "extremely well driven and dedicated toward their goals." Le Moyne is "really great with diversity and bringing in people from all over the world," forming a very inclusive bunch where "you make friends easy, and they're there for life." Many students come from New York State (especially nearby suburbs), and "it is common to share multiple classes with the same people."

Admissions

From the School:

Le Moyne seeks qualified students who are well-prepared for serious academic study. Secondary school preparation must have included at least 17 college-preparatory high school units, 4 of which must be in English, 4 in social studies, 3-4 in mathematics, 3-4 in foreign language, and 3-4 in science. It is also recommended that prospective science and mathematics majors complete 4 units of mathematics and science. Le Moyne is test optional, which means SAT and/or ACT scores are not required for admission. Campus visits are strongly recommended, as the admission process is a personal one. As bases for selection, academic achievement and secondary school recommendations are of primary importance. Out-of-state students are encouraged to apply.

Le Moyne offers students the opportunity to apply in two ways: early action or regular admission. The early action program is nonbinding and provides high school students the opportunity to receive an early admission decision. Following early action, regular admission applications are reviewed and admission decisions are made on a rolling basis. The priority deadline for applications is February 1; all students who wish to be considered for academic merit scholarships should have a completed application on file in the Office of Admission before this date. Transfer students are encouraged to apply before August 1 for the fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester. Orientation programs for incoming freshmen take place in June. Transfer student orientation programs are offered throughout the summer.

Discover an education in which you will explore, encounter and question the world you know and the world in which you will make your mark. Experience the difference a Jesuit education will make in your life and the difference you will make in the world.

Le Moyne College offers more than 700 courses leading to Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degrees in more than 100 majors, minors and special programs. Le Moyne also provides courses of study leading to a master's in business administration, education, occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, arts administration, information systems, and family nurse practitioner. Two doctoral programs are also offered, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Doctorate in Executive Leadership (Ed.D.).

What students say

Le Moyne College is a small private liberal arts college rooted in the Catholic and Jesuit tradition that seeks to provide a full education that will prepare students for a lifetime of leadership and service. Located in upstate New York, Le Moyne's undergraduates follow a core curriculum that introduces them to the knowledge and skills that will carry them through their time at the college and beyond, bookended by a first-year Transitions seminar and a senior Transformations capstone course or project. Interdisciplinary learning is encouraged, and most departments put on extra credit lectures with guest speakers that are "always educational but entertaining."

Professors at Le Moyne "ensure that you are actually learning and retaining information, [and] that their course has benefited you in every way." In the classroom, they make "use of real-life scenarios or hands-on examples" to demonstrate their lessons, and "frequently mention that they prefer to have a conversation about the material rather than simply talk at the students." Discussion-based exercises are preferred over straight lectures, and many classes incorporate "unique group projects." Faculty work to "establish incredibly close connections with students," which helps to "truly understand and accommodate" students. Smaller class sizes provide "a more personal experience with their professors and peers," and both teachers and staff are "always willing to meet with you and do their best to help you succeed."

Location

Le Moyne's 160-plus acre, tree-lined campus is located in a residential setting 10 minutes from downtown Syracuse, the heart of New York State, whose metropolitan population is about 700,000. Just a few miles outside the city are the rolling hills, picturesque lakes, and miles of open country for which central New York is renowned.

Campus Facilities & Equipment

Le Moyne students benefit from an ongoing commitment to technological excellence. The College's 42 buildings are equipped with accounting, biological sciences, chemistry, computer science, physics, psychology, and statistics laboratories.

Le Moyne recently opened a 48,000 square foot addition to its existing science complex, as well as the Madden College of Business & Economics featuring a state-of-the-art live trading floor and analytics lab.

The newly refurbished Noreen Reale Falcone Library houses the new Quantitative Reasoning Center, Writing Center and Student Success Center.

The W. Carroll Coyne Center for the Performing Arts houses generous production, performance, and classroom space; the latest light and sound technology; scene and costume shops; an aerobics and dance studio; and rehearsal rooms for instrumental and choral music.

Academic facilities also include an extensively renovated color television studio; a radio/recording studio; a receiver-antenna satellite dish; transmission and scanning electron microscopes; a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer; a gas chromatograph/mass spectrophotometer; a 240,000-volume, open-stack library; and extensive on-site computer facilities.

A wireless network allows students easy access to the campus network and Internet. All classrooms are smart classrooms, with multimedia capabilities that expand and enrich the learning process.

Le Moyne students have access to other libraries through the Central New York Library Resources Council, and the campus Academic Support Center is available to students for instructional support.

Athletic facilities include the newly renovated Event Center, new soccer and lacrosse turf field, a new softball field; baseball field, tennis, basketball, and wellness studios; a weight-training and fitness center; practice fields; and two gymnasiums. A recreation center houses an Olympic-size indoor swimming pool, jogging track, indoor tennis and volleyball courts, and additional basketball, racquetball, and fitness areas.

The College also has a plaza, which houses its bookstore and the Keenan Center for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Creativity, which includes a state-of-the-art makerspace. The Dolphin Den, which features a food court and a convenience store, is a popular space for students to meet, have a bite to eat, or just spend a quiet moment relaxing by the fireplace.

Off-Campus Opportunities

Syracuse is convenient to most major cities throughout the Northeast, New England, and Canada and offers a wide array of activities, including shopping centers and restaurants, many near Le Moyne. Syracuse offers year-round entertainment in the form of rock concerts at the Lakeview Amphitheater, Broadway shows at the Landmark Theatre, professional baseball and hockey, the Bristol Omni-theatre, Syracuse Stage, the Everson Museum of Art, and more. The Armory Square district downtown offers one-of-a-kind eateries, pubs, and coffeehouses in addition to a wide variety of social and cultural events. Central New York is home to an extensive network of state and county parks, recreational areas, and other facilities that offer an abundance of recreational opportunities, including swimming, boating, hiking, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and golf.

What students say:

Le Moyne is a relatively small school, "which allows for it to feel like home away from home." Around 60* percent of students live on the "very well kept" campus: students note the constant renovations (like that of the library and science buildings) that are "always happening to keep it feeling fresh." No matter where they live, students can be found "studying all over campus, from dorm rooms to the library to outside under the trees," and "when people aren't working they'll typically visit downtown Syracuse." A vehicle is highly recommended for such excursions, particular when it comes to taking advantage of "plenty of outdoor activities such as hiking in the local state park." That said, students say "there is always something to do" on campus, whether that's a club or a school-run event like trivia night, bingo, and Dolphy Day, where "students and faculty gather on the quad for a day of food, drinks, and music." Sports are popular both to play and to watch, and students also go up the road to nearby Syracuse University to attend larger athletic events.

01. Overview

From the School

Le Moyne College is a four-year, coeducational Jesuit college of approximately 2,700 undergraduate students that uniquely balances a comprehensive liberal arts education with preparation for specific career paths or graduate study.

Founded in 1946, Le Moyne is the youngest of the twenty-seven Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States. Its emphasis is on the education of the whole person and on the search for meaning and value as integral parts of an intellectual life. Learning, entrepreneurship, leadership and service are the hallmarks of a Le Moyne College education. Those values are evident in the College's 100+ undergraduate majors, minors and special programs of study and graduate programs in business administration, clinical mental health counseling, education, executive leadership, nursing, occupational therapy, information systems and physician assistant studies.

Le Moyne's personal approach to education is reflected in the quality of contact between students and faculty members. With approximately 150 full-time faculty members, Le Moyne has a student-faculty ratio of 12:1 and an average class size of 20.
