01. Overview

What the school is known for:

Educating the “head, heart, and hand” is at the core of Jarvis Christian College, where intellect is encouraged just as much as spirituality and service to create well-rounded leaders of tomorrow. The Hawkins, Texas, institution—affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)—offers degree programs in the fields of education, religion, and criminal justice, along with specializations like kinesiology. Biology students are also invited to partake in nursing programs through JCC’s unique partnership with the University of Texas at Tyler. Though the institution currently only offers associate and bachelor’s degrees, by 2023, the first master’s degree programs will roll out, officially establishing the college as a university.

In order to adapt to the evolving needs of students, JCC recently became part of an online college consortium that offers remote learning opportunities and promotes continued studies during summer breaks. Hosted by the Acadeum platform, undergrads can choose from varied courses provided by a number of accredited colleges and universities, accessing additional options that are not always available in JCC classrooms.
