01. What the School is Known For

From the School

Babson College shapes the entrepreneurial leaders our world needs most: those with strong functional knowledge and the skills and vision to navigate change, accommodate ambiguity, surmount complexity, and motivate teams in a common purpose to create sustainable economic and social value in organizations of all types and sizes. A global leader in entrepreneurship education, Babson offers undergraduate, graduate, and executive education programs as well as partnership opportunities.

As the No. 1 undergraduate school for entrepreneurship for 26 consecutive times, Babson's Undergraduate School provides a top-ranked education, blending business and liberal arts and sciences programs with curricular and cocurricular learning that teaches students to turn ideas into action. Studying business doesn't mean you have to give up on fun. Babson has the classic aspects of a college campus—athletics, Greek life, arts, clubs and organizations. When something doesn't exist, our students take an entrepreneurial approach to create communities, opportunities, and moments that contribute to a vibrant and thriving living and learning environment.

Babson has an undergraduate student population of 2,532 students—including 44% U.S. students of color and 29% international students, underscoring Babson's commitment to diversity.

With a global network of more than 43,000 alumni in 125 countries, Babson graduates prove that you don't need to start a business to be an entrepreneur. Rather, entrepreneurship is a mindset—one that makes students innovative, flexible, creative, and out of the box thinkers. That entrepreneurial mindset can be applied to innovating within a large corporation, solving global social issues, or starting a business in any industry, sectors, or function.

That entrepreneurial mindset gives Babson students an edge in today's evolving global economy. 99.5 percent of Babson alumni are employed or attending graduate school within six months of graduation, and Payscale has consistently named the College the top business school in the country for salary potential.

From The School

Every year, Babson enrolls undergraduate students who are among the best in the world. Rugby players, debaters, journalists, rock climbers, scuba divers, musicians, and astronomers—each member of our campus community is unique and brings their own perspective to Babson. The diverse student population allows students to learn from each other and come together as part of a dynamic living and learning community.

Babson's co-curricular opportunities reflect a tapestry of emerging student interests and passions that you will have an opportunity to fully immerse in, connect to, and lead. There are more than 100 student clubs and organizations on campus, including the Babson Dance Ensemble, Improv Troupe, Babson Fashion Group, Babson's Community of Developers & Entrepreneurs (CODE), Black Student Union, and Investment Club. Twenty-one percent of the student population participates in Greek Life.

Babson offers 22 NCAA Division III Varsity Athletic Programs—11 for men, 11 for women—club sports, and recreational programming.

What students say:

The Babson community, while made up of individuals from many countries and very different backgrounds, is frequently described as tight-knit. "The greatest strength is the size of the school. Because it is relatively small, there is a stronger sense of community and it's a lot easier to make friends." As one student explains: "We play together and get along well." Babson students are almost invariably described as being very serious about their academic work and career ambitions. "Students at Babson College are incredibly motivated and visionary individuals. They tend to be confident in who they are, and are determined to achieve whatever life goal they've set." As another observes, "Babson's student body has the smarts of Ivy League students combined with an entrepreneurial mindset unlike most of other top schools." Many note that a good percentage of Babson students come from families that are financially successful and established in the business world, which some believe provides invaluable networking opportunities. "The student body at Babson College is full of ambitious and competitive people. However, there is also a strong sense of community and people love to help others succeed."

From the School

Babson College's academic curriculum blends business fundamentals with liberal arts and sciences courses, helping students build critical thinking and communication skills for the modern business world.

Students can customize their degree with optional concentrations. Our 24 concentrations are like majors, but better, requiring fewer courses and allowing students to focus learning on one or more subject areas of interest. They offer a targeted way to customize a Babson degree, connect with specific faculty advisers, and align education with career aspirations.

At Babson, you learn to:

  • Think entrepreneurially, turning ideas into action
  • Communicate effectively when writing and speaking
  • Understand global and multicultural perspectives
  • Lead teams effectively to tackle challenges
  • Analyze data to gain insights and develop strategies
  • Create socially responsible and ethical business solutions

With a $50 million gift from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, Babson recently established and launched the Arthur M. Blank School for Entrepreneurial Leadership to advance and amplify values-driven entrepreneurial leadership on a global scale. The Blank School is fueling the future of entrepreneurial leadership, and making a global impact when the world needs it most.

What students say

Babson College is a small private business school in the Boston area renowned for its entrepreneurial focus. As one student claims, "The academics here are second to none if you are interested in business." Founded in 1919 by a Massachusetts economist to provide practical business training for aspiring executives, Babson now offers a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a strong foundation in liberal arts and sciences and over 20 concentrations to choose from, ranging from traditional areas such as finance to modern ones like environmental sustainability. "Babson is incredibly focused on business curriculum, meaning that your general education requirements have a business backdrop." One of the most popular courses at Babson, and one of the school's major draws, is the Foundations of Management and Entrepreneurship program in which professors help first-year students start their own businesses. "Babson allows students to explore their passions, to take up leadership roles, and to be creative...I'm impressed by the freedom students are given to come up with their own business ideas and to pursue their future careers." Babson students speak highly of their professors and value their practical skills, business acumen, and proven success stories as much as their teaching ability. "Professors are entrepreneurs and business professionals with real-world experience. Teaching is not just theory but theory that is matched with application at every single point." Most students praise their professors' enthusiasm and dedication to teaching as well, with many citing a mentor's guidance as indispensable to their achievements. "The professors and academics really help teach a mindset that will help Babson students succeed in leadership."

Location

Babson is located in picturesque Wellesley, MA, home to three colleges and the halfway point on the Boston Marathon route. Wellesley offers a thriving downtown with many shops and restaurants and is easily accessible to Boston via car or public transportation. Our campus is walking distance to Olin College of Engineering and less than two miles from Wellesley College.

A diverse historical and cultural hub, Boston offers award-winning dining, over 10 concert venues, and championship-caliber sports teams. It's a walkable city, with high-end shopping on Newbury Street, museums, coffee shops, and a beautiful library to explore. It is also home to an international airport, various train and subway stations, and ship ports, connecting you to home, other colleges and universities, the Greater Boston area, other states, and Cape Cod. You can easily take public transport to coastal New England towns such as Portland, Maine; Portsmouth, New Hampshire; Rockport, Massachusetts; and Newport, Rhode Island.

Campus Facilities & Equipment

Len Green Recreation and Athletics Complex

From its Olympic lifting platforms to its array of cardio equipment and multipurpose courts, the newly completed Babson Recreation and Athletics Complex (BRAC) is the College's home for community building, serving as a destination for students to pursue health and wellness initiatives, and as a programming space for myriad events. BRAC features three basketball courts, two floors of exercise spaces, and multipurpose recreational rooms, as well as Varsity locker rooms and an enhanced sports medicine area.

The Weissman Foundry

The Weissman Foundry at Babson College is a cutting-edge studio dedicated to fostering creative and collaborative projects led by a community of Babson, Olin, and Wellesley college students. The Foundry's intentional mashup of student disciplines and interests ignites forward-thinking idea exploration, iteration, and design, and facilitates meaningful knowledge transfer between its community members.

Finance Lab at the Stephen D. Cutler Center for Investments and Finance

A new, state of the art finance lab at Babson College sits at the heart of campus and has 42 workstations equipped with Bloomberg terminals, FactSet, and other tools used by industry professionals. The new facility provides students with unique opportunities to learn and lead through signature learning experiences designed to prepare them for successful careers in financial services and a variety of thought leadership events that bring some of the brightest minds in finance to campus.

Off-Campus Opportunities

Located just 10 miles from downtown Boston, Babson offers a number of opportunities for students to travel to the city for class, or for fun. Boston is rich in history, diversity, food and culture. And with four major sports teams, Boston boasts year-round activities that are sure to keep students busy and entertained outside of class.

Venture Beyond Babson
A Babson undergraduate education extends beyond the borders of the Wellesley campus. Students are encouraged to infuse their learning with international experiences, including:
Spend an academic year, semester, or summer abroad through one of Babson's 100+ approved education abroad programs
Travel with a Babson faculty member during an academic break on an Elective Abroad
Hone consulting skills on an international consulting project

Babson partners with top international business schools and organizations to offer academically rigorous and culturally engaging experiences abroad while earning credit toward your degree.

What students say:

Babson students consider the wide array of clubs, teams, and structured social groups available on campus to be one of the school's great strengths. Many note that the administration encourages extracurricular pursuits, not only by offering over a hundred student organizations of various types, but also by providing liberal funding for their creation. "I am a part of many extracurriculars at college, from Student Government to Greek Life. I like everything I am a part of, and I like that I am able to diversify my involvement." Choices range from sports teams such as baseball, equestrian, and figure-skating, to marketing and finance groups, to charitable endeavors such as Habitat for Humanity, and particular interests such as theater, chess, and cooking. "Class schedules are very lenient and flexible, so students fill their days with as many extracurricular and career development activities as possible." In addition to the high level of activity on campus, many students also reap the benefits of living in the Boston area. Many routinely spend their weekends browsing the unique shops on historic Newbury Street, taking in an exhibit at the world-famous Museum of Fine Arts, or even cheering a Red Sox game at Boston's famous Fenway Park.

01. Overview

Babson awards $50 million in undergraduate aid; $48 million comes directly from Babson in grants and scholarships. Approximately 50%; of Babson's undergraduates receive financial assistance. Babson meets approximately 100%; of students' demonstrated need in their first year. Babson commits to each student's level of Babson Grant for four years, provided there are no major changes to the family's financial circumstances or a change in the number of the student's siblings in college.

We require the FAFSA and the CSS Profile in order to be considered for Financial Aid. In addition to Financial Aid, we award many scholarships based on merit and other criteria.

What students say

Given the entrepreneurial focus of Babson, students here “tend to be heavily invested in their life after Babson and in setting themselves up for a comfortable career.” It’s also helpful that “the alumni network is very responsive given how small and community-like Babson is.” The Center for Career Development connects students with prospective employers and is “one of the most active voices on campus and constantly has extremely useful events.” The Management Consulting Field Experience gives students practical industry experience in their chosen field. In the program, Babson students work as consultants to address a specific business challenge—giving them a chance to showcase their creativity and insights. The “extensive time taken to teach students here how to view the world through an entrepreneurial lens” is well known to employers, “making Babson [graduates] standout candidates for jobs.” PayScale.com indicates a starting median salary of $85,500 for Babson graduates.
